Debbie Picard picked as Principal for St Francis in 2011-12
Debbie Picard, a 15 year veteran staff member of the school, has been selected by Father Mike Kelly as Principal beginning next fall after Matt Vukicevich informed Father Mike that he would not be returning as Principal for a third year. He has accepted an offer from Cardinal Newman to return there in a multi-faceted role and to resume his former coaching duties. Mrs Picard is currently finishing up her master's degree in Catholic School Administration. St Francis School community is excited to welcome Mrs Picard into her new role as Principal. We are truly blessed to have her step into this important job, and we wish her well in the transition to the new office !!

Students Raise Over $2,000 for Japan Tsunami Victims
The Students at St. Francis Solano School competed in a “coin war” that proudly raised over $2,000 to help the earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross for its relief work in Japan. Over a three-day period last week, the students brought to school their spare change and used the first five minutes of each day to “poison” each other class money pots with quarters. The students’ objective was to have the fewest coins in their particular classes.
Team members pictured from L-R: Katie Perdue, teacher Michelle Momsen, Gavin Orr, Jenny Nova, Brad King, John Lokey, Linda Zvarcova, Jack Biaggi, Shane Lounibos, Clay Dunkle, and Brian Martin. They were coached by Mrs. Momsen, with the help from other staff members.
For many years, the Diocesan schools of Sonoma and Napa Counties have met on the first Saturday of March to compete in an Academic Decathlon. On Saturday, March 5, St. Francis Solano School competed against four other Diocesan schools in many categories. Students were tested on logic skills, critical thinking, fine arts, current events and specific subjects such as science, math, social studies, language arts, and religion.
The St. Francis team placed first in the Logic Quiz and second in the SuperQuiz, both are team events. They also placed in 7 of the 8 individual categories. These total scores were then compiled, placing them in first place overall for the 2011 Academic Decathlon of Santa Rosa. The next step for the team will be competing in the State Academic Decathlon, on May 7.

We are very proud to announce that St. Francis Solano School received a six-year accreditation rating!
The school community, which includes, administration, teachers and
staff, members of the Advisory Council and Parents' Club, spent the
last 18 months working diligently on this self-study process. As a
result of hundreds of hours of meetings and discussions, we identified
areas of strength (and we have many!) as well as areas of growth have
become our "Action Plan" for the next six years. The resulting document
was over 100 pages long.
As you may recall, in March, our WASC
evaluation team made a three-day visit to our school and were very
impressed with both the academic excellence of our school, and also the
Catholicity of our school.
We thank everyone for their hard
work; and especially the members of the Leadership Team: Lydia
Blecksmith, Susan Smith, Debbie Picard, Veronica Beattie-Smith, and
Michelle Momsen. As Father Mike would say, "Hip, Hip, Hurray!"
