Every year 8th-grade students at St. Francis Solano participate in an American History essay contest sponsored by the local chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  This year's topic was the completion of the transcontinental railroad and the driving of the golden spike.

This year, over 200 essays were submitted and all three places were taken by St. Francis students – the first time in the history of the contest that one school has swept all places.  Paul, B., Gina P. and Meagan C. were our winners.  They attended the DAR awards ceremony with their families and their social studies teacher, Anne Phillips, where they received certificates and monetary prizes.

Church Street Drop Off & Pick Up Procedure
The new procedure is running extremely smoothly and efficiently.  If you don't like waiting in line, the lightest lines are between 8:00 and 8:10.  Don't forget there is no parking in the white curbed area from 7:30-8:30 A.M. and 1:00-3:30 P.M.

We are very proud to announce that St. Francis Solano School received a six-year accreditation rating! The school community, which includes, administration, teachers and staff, members of the Advisory Council and Parents' Club, spent the last 18 months working diligently on this self-study process.  As a result of hundreds of hours of meetings and discussions, we identified areas of strength (and we have many!) as well as areas of growth have become our "Action Plan" for the next six years. The resulting document was over 100 pages long.
As you may recall, in March, our WASC evaluation team made a three-day visit to  our school and were very impressed with both the academic excellence of our school, and also the Catholicity of our school.

We thank everyone for their hard work; and especially the members of the Leadership Team: Lydia Blecksmith, Susan Smith, Debbie Picard, Veronica Beattie-Smith, and Michelle Momsen. As Father Mike would say, "Hip, Hip, Hurray!"
